Friends,
It's been a tough few months and I’m not talking about SBF or SVB. My mom passed away from pancreas cancer two weeks ago after only being diagnosed a few months earlier. It happened so fast, though that may be a blessing as she didn't suffer too much and went very peacefully. As I wrote about last month, as much as we want control in our lives, I know there’s nothing more we could have done to save her, and nothing I can do now but grieve. Life is hard sometimes and that’s OK. Amidst my grief I’m not feeling particularly inspired to write today, but I’m committed to developing a habit of writing and promised myself I would publish at least 2 substacks per month through March, so here we go.
Here are some of the things I’ve been reading, exploring and getting into in the 3 weeks since my last update:
15 of the World’s Most Beautiful Libraries - Stunning photos, hard to pick a favorite!
Velocity vs. viscosity. You might be measuring software delivery velocity but what about viscosity? "Water flows faster and easier than honey. Similarly, our teams will go as fast as they are capable of. The real issue is finding what is slowing them down." Viscosity measures the things that slow your teams down such as dependencies and skill development.
Follow Everyone Farcaster Script. I came across a script written by @maurelian to follow everyone that Warpcast & Farcaster founder @DWR follows. I wasn’t sure how easy it would be for me, a non-developer, to figure out but I wanted to try it. Basic steps I took: open VS Code, clone repository, install typescript, get stuck, tinker and fail, get a little 1:1 help from Maurelian and then got it working. I’m excited to see how my feed changes and will report back.
Is Enterprise Architecture making a comeback? “A good enterprise architect will help to evolve an organization to be able to ship faster, more often, with less defects, and less outages. They will put the needs of the customer above all else to enable the business to be successful.”
The Generalist on Substack - Lots of great nuggets and insight into the phenomena that is substack, starting with a fascinating origin story about the Associated Press that you’ve probably never heard.
Test Automation for Continuous Deployment - Guidance on how to approach test automation from my friend and former colleague Tobias who blogs at
.In my grief I’m finding comfort in poetry, particularly The Trees Witness Everything by Victoria Chang and Self Love Poetry for Thinkers and Feelers by Melody Godfred, books I picked up last week from the institution that is Powell’s Books in Portland, Oregon.
A note to my subscribers:
If you’ve read this far, thank you for supporting my writing and journey. As much as I started this substack for myself, it’s nice to think of real people around the world hearing these words. Please feel free to share it with anyone you think might also enjoy it, reach out and say hello, and of course unsubscribe anytime.
Until next time, keep putting good into the world. —adrienne🌏❤️
Sorry to hear about your mother once again, in a similar boat.
Loved the article! Keep writing!!
